Mount Annan Christian College has been providing students with the opportunity to get involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Program since 2003. We are very proud of our student’s achievements to date, with participants having completed the prestigious Gold Award through our College. In 2008, 9 students spent two weeks in South Africa and Swaziland as part of their Adventurous Journey, volunteering activities and residential project.

The Award is a flexible, interesting and fun-packed program for all young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to participate in a number of activities over a set length of time. It is entirely voluntary and is structured so the participants can design their own unique program centred around their interests and passions. There are 3 levels to the program, namely Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Students are expected to complete four sections of activities for each level over a prescribed length of time.
- Physical Recreation - This could be through a team sport, individual pursuit or simply getting out there and working up a sweat.
- Skill - Anything from refereeing, to DJ’ing to learning a musical instrument, to jewellery making.
- Volunteering - Connect with your community and serve others through activities such as youth work, the environment or charity work.
- Adventurous Journey - Discover your sense of adventure and bond with your mates. Go on a journey into an unfamiliar environment with a group.
- Residential Project (For Gold only) - Broaden your horizons and open your eyes to the world.
