Rationale

Mount Annan Christian College awards selected students with Sport Scholarships when they demonstrate strengths in particular sports. These scholarships will be granted to students who are currently enrolled at the College or are interested in enrolment at the College, based on specific criteria. Sport Scholarships are offered to students in Years 7 to 11. We are looking for students who meet the normal academic requirements of the school but who also demonstrate outstanding sporting ability, potential, determination and enthusiasm.

Scholarships attract a minimum of 50% and up to 100% reduction of the College tuition fees. The specific value of each Scholarship will be determined by the Principal, based on the merit of each application. Scholarships will be awarded for the life of enrolment at Mount Annan Christian College, subject to the College’s standard Conditions of Enrolment, the Terms and Conditions associated with a College Scholarship and also to periodical Performance Reviews through which the holder demonstrates exemplary standards of effort, progress, involvement, contribution, and influence on his peers.

Scholarship holders are not only expected to maintain satisfactory academic standards but are also expected to make a contribution to the wider life of the College (which extends beyond their core involvement in House Activities, Excursions, Outdoor Education and Sport).

The aim of these scholarships is to recognise and encourage award holders’ sporting talents and, in doing so, to boost the performance of College teams. The scholarship provides financial support for quality schooling. It currently does not provide for ongoing elite coaching. It is expected that the arrangements parents have in place for such coaching will continue. It is expected that successful scholarship holders would participate in a range of College sports including Christian Schools Sports Association (CSSA) and Combined Independent Schools (CIS) competitions.

Scholarship holders will be expected to be good ambassadors and to demonstrate a willingness to contribute fully to the sporting and general life of the College. This includes a requirement for scholarship holders to represent the College in at least two representative sports on a regular basis.

Criteria:

  • Demonstrated excellence in a chosen sport with representation at a State level or above
  • Evidence of leadership in sport
  • Participation in school sport at either NSWCIS, NSWCCC, NSWCHS, NSW All-Schools or National level, or other equivalent levels.

Selection will be based on:

  • Presentation of documentary evidence of achievements (to be submitted with application).  However, please do not enclose valuable medals or ribbons; photocopies will be sufficient at the time of application and the originals can be presented at interview.
  • Referees reports (to be submitted with application)
  • Interview process

Please note that the College may make contact with coach/coaches of applicants who are short-listed.

All scholarships are reviewed annually and their continuance is dependent upon satisfactory conduct, attitude, participation and progress. At such a review, Scholarship holders are expected to assess their own contribution and to set targets/goals for themselves.

Application Information (APPLICATIONS FOR 2013 ARE NOW OPEN !)

Mount Annan Christian College is pleased to offer Sport Scholarships within the College for students entering Years 7 – 11 in the year of the scholarship application. These are awarded on merit and an interview before an appointed Selection Panel.

Scholarships are awarded at a varying level of discount on the tuition and Student Expenses component of the College fees. Awarded Sport Scholarships will apply for the remainder of the student’s education as long as appropriate sporting, academic and behavioral standards are maintained.
