Studying Science at Mount Annan Christian College encompasses more than just learning the outcomes in the syllabus. Science is part of everyday life, so Science should not be merely learned, it should be experienced. The Science staff at Mount Annan Christian College are dedicated to exposing students to the relevance of Science in our culture and the global community. Students learn through practical and other experiences how they can make use of and contribute to scientific endeavour in our society. Since our first HSC graduates we have seen a steady flow of students moving through university into Science and Engineering. Students begin their journey into Science in early Junior School, learning the basic skills of investigation. This continues through to year 6 where students have a sound grasp of the Scientific method and the impact that science has had on technological advancement. Years 7 to 10 students study a broad range of disciplines within Science and build on the skills needed for thorough scientific investigation. As they enter years 11 and 12, students are able to select from Biology, Chemistry or Physics. Students often choose to complete more than one, sometimes all three, of these subjects. To enhance the Science experience at Mount Annan Christian College, students are exposed to external competitions and events including the Regional Science Fair at the University of Wollongong, Siemens Science Experience, excursions and lunch activities for the enthusiastic students. We also run a Science Day, engaging the entire College in a whole day of discovery and fun. At Mount Annan Christian College all subjects including Science are presented from a Christian perspective, equipping young people to make informed, ethical decisions as they move beyond the College.
